Arsenal handed major blow in Matheus Cunha transfer pursuit despite ‘talks’ beginning

Arsenal are wanting to add a centre-forward to their squad this summer as they look to push towards winning the Premier League

According to reports, Matheus Cunha of Wolverhampton Wanderers has initiated negotiations with Arsenal, but it is believed that the Brazilian may prefer to join a rival team.

Notwithstanding the West Midlands team’s struggles to avoid relegation, the 25-year-old has garnered a lot of praise this season for his outstanding play. Wolves has been pushed to safety by his 16 goals across all competitions, and now attention is shifting to Cunha’s potential position for the upcoming campaign.

Mikel Arteta’s team is searching for a center-forward, and according to Sky Sports News, they have had exploratory discussions with Cunha’s representatives in addition to Aston Villa.

In order for Arsenal to know exactly how much they will have to pay to get the Brazilian, a ÂŁ62.5 million release clause was added to his contract.

Cunha is reportedly interested in joining Manchester United, even though it appears that they will virtually certainly qualify for the Champions League the next season.

The team led by Ruben Amorim is now in the bottom half of the Premier League standings and will only be able to play in Europe if they win the Europa League.

Cunha, who considers United to be among the greatest clubs in the world, is not believed to be alarmed by the fact that the two teams are currently tied for first place. This media outlet was informed by a source that the 25-year-old ‘loves United’.

It would seem that Arsenal has little chance of signing the forward if this is the case. Since the team has suffered in the Premier League this season due to a lack of attackers, Arteta may need to shift their attention to other targets in order to bolster their attack.

Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres has been extensively connected with the Gunners while Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is seen as the dream target but Eddie Howe’s asking price is thought to be too expensive.
