Leeds Want to Sign £10m England International for Farke
Alan Nixon claims that ahead of the summer transfer window, Leeds United is “on red alert” for Wolverhampton Wanderers custodian Sam Johnstone.
Leeds, who were heartbroken in the 2023–24 play-off final, are currently in a strong position to make it back to the Premier League at the second time of asking. The Whites are once again vying for the Championship title under Daniel Farke’s leadership.
In general, Leeds and the vast majority of their players have been reliable throughout the season. Alan Meslier has been the subject of the only noteworthy player-related enquiries. The French goalie was recently benched in favour of Karl Darlow due to a series of mistakes he committed during the season.
The Whites would have undoubtedly have been keeping an eye on the upcoming transfer window, but it is now obvious that, whether they are promoted or not, a custodian will probably be among their first acquisitions. It appears like Leeds has their sights set on a specific goalie.

Wolves could sell their second choice keeper
Alan Nixon claims that Leeds is interested in Sam Johnstone. James Trafford of Burnley and Nick Pope, the top player for Newcastle United, are both targets for Leeds, but Nixon pointed out that they would both be more expensive than the Whites are willing to pay and may be challenging to bargain.
Wolves would reportedly willing to leave with the custodian, who joined Leeds from Crystal Palace in 2024, for £10 million, thus Leeds would be acquiring a far less expensive option in Johnstone.

Johnstone was finally benched in favour of Jose Sa after playing a number of games in the starting lineup in the early going of the season. He has been on the bench a lot since Vitor Pereira arrived.
Given this and the fact that Wolves fired the goalkeeping coach who persuaded Johnstone to go, it’s possible that the England international will be moving in the summer. An established and seasoned Premier League custodian would be available to Leeds from Johnstone, but it’s likely that the Whites would need to earn promotion before they could pursue a deal.
