Leeds defeated Preston 2-1 to win their second straight game, while Sheffield United lost to Plymouth for the third time in a row. With four games remaining, Leeds leads third place by five points.

Leeds might get automatic promotion in less than a week if they have good victories over Easter, and the Premier League is certain. Leeds takes on Stoke and Oxford United.

Leeds make initial contact to sign Gladbach captain Julian Weigl

However, it’s obvious that the Whites are optimistic about getting promoted. The reason for this is that they are already laying the groundwork for high-end acquisitions, as seen by the significant transfer announcements made by Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany.

Leeds has reportedly already initiated negotiations to recruit Gladbach captain Julian Weigl, according to Plettenberg. A midfielder with caps for Germany and a player Daniel Farke paid £6 million to join Gladbach from Benfica.

Weigl would be amenable to a move to the Premier League and the opportunity to work with Farke again, according to the report. With a contract that expires in 2028, Weigl makes between £50,000 and £57,000 a week after taxes.

Plettenberg said: “Leeds are monitoring Weigl. The 29 y/o captain of Gladbach earns a gross annual salary of around €3–3.5m, plus performance bonuses and incentives, making him one of the club’s top earners.

“Farke and Weigl maintain a good relationship. Leeds have already made initial contact to assess if the midfielder would consider a move to England. Weigl would only consider a move to the Premier League.”

What Daniel Farke has said about Julian Weigl in recent weeks

Farke deviated from his normal behavior earlier this month by speaking to international media at the midseason. Both on and off the field, Weigl is a “great player and person,” according to Leeds boss Farke, who spoke to TransferMarkt.

Leeds will undoubtedly be interested in a layer with Weigl’s resume and things will undoubtedly get better. Given that he will soon be in his thirties and is at a salary that Leeds can undoubtedly afford, Weigl is also reasonably priced.

If the club is promoted, nevertheless. If Leeds were to return to the Premier League, Weigl, who is well-known for his passing, work ethic, and technique, might be enticed to join the team. However, there is still a lot of work to be done beforehand.
