Real Madrid star Luka Modric agrees deal to become Championship club owner

Luka Modric is set to become a part owner of an English club, with the Real Madrid star having agreed a deal to buy a minority stake in Swansea City

Swansea City has agreed to let Luka Modric, a 39-year-old Croatian midfielder for Real Madrid, acquire a minority ownership in the Championship team.

Modric’s playing career will not be impacted by his engagement with Swansea, notwithstanding the new commercial endeavor. As he gets closer to turning 40, the former Ballon d’Or winner is determined to keep playing for Real Madrid and is still a vital member of the team at the Bernabeu.

Modric has stated a strong desire to stay at Madrid as his contract draws to a close, but he is also setting the stage for his post-playing days by investing in Swansea, who Fabrizio Romano claims were last seen in the Premier League in 2018.

Modric has joined Swansea’s current owners, which include chairman Andy Coleman and his associates Brett Cravatt, Nigel Morris, and Jason Cohen, after the club’s ownership changed last year.

“We want to build a sustainable football club that eliminates a lot of the risks of the ever-changing economics of football and obviously I’m a dreamer by nature, we all want to get back to the Premier League, but we want to get there in the right way so that we can sustain that when we get there.” Coleman, an American businessman, declared a “new era” after acquiring the team, according to the Mirror.

After defeating Reading in the play-offs at Wembley, Swansea City became the first Welsh team to play in the Premier League in 2011. Under Garry Mon’s leadership, they had a successful seven-season run in the top division of English football, with their best result being eighth.

Luka Modric’s path, meanwhile, led him from North London’s Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid. In spite of his early difficulties and the derision surrounding his acquisition, Modric has since become an important member of the Spanish team and has a long list of achievements to his name.

The midfielder from Croatia is regarded by many as one of his nation’s best players. He has four La Liga crowns and six Champions League trophies in his trophy collection.

Along with his success at club, Modric was instrumental in Croatia’s journey to the 2018 World Cup final and won the Golden Ball, defeating players like Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo.
