Preston Red-Card Debate: Daniel Farke admits Leeds United ace is ‘tricky’ to manage and comments on Preston red-card debate

In the kind of high-pressure scenario Leeds United is currently in, emotions are bound to run high.

Additionally, Manor Solomon allowed his frustrations to overwhelm him as the Yorkshire giants threatened to replicate their springtime shortcomings of 2019 and 2024, with performances falling and outcomes drifting at the very wrong time.

Daniel Farke’s decision to substitute the Leeds winger late in the 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers did not sit well with the player.

Against Portsmouth and West Brom in March, the Yorkshire giants had already lost four points. And it makes sense that an irate Solomon thought he could give Farke the late victory as Leeds United rallied from a 2-0 deficit at Loftus Road.

Farke is fortunate to be old enough to see that, even in the middle of a difficult promotion struggle, not everything is sunshine and smiles. In fact, Solomon’s ambition was commended by the Leeds manager in his post-match interview, though it may have been accompanied by some harsh warnings.

Daniel Farke loves working with ‘tricky’ Manor Solomon at Leeds United

Farke acknowledges that the Tottenham Hotspur loanee can occasionally be a “tricky” customer after Solomon scored the first goal and helped Jayden Bogle score the game-winning goal on Saturday afternoon. Leeds defeated Preston North End at Elland Road to move five points clear of Sheffield United in third place, effectively ending their March wobble.

However, he would rather a player who is driven to win and struggles to control his emotions than one who is indifferent to the demands of his team.

It’s always a pleasure working with Solomon. “A great character,” Farke remarks. Yes, he is capable of being cunning. He gets upset, especially when he loses a game.

“But top.”

Solomon has now contributed three goals in his previous two games, against Middlesbrough and Preston North End, respectively, after going eight games without a goal or an assist prior to the March international break.

The Israeli international is probably going to finish the season with a “double-double.” He has ten assists across all competitions and double figures for goals (he is presently on eight).

After a generally unproductive performance against Luton a week ago, some were speculating as to if Farke should bench Manor Solomon.

Farke says Karl Darlow did not deserve a red card in Preston win

Farke will also feel justified for his decision to use Karl Darlow in goal. Following the Swansea City fiasco, Darlow replaced Illan Meslier. The seasoned former glovesman for Nottingham Forest, Hull City, and Newcastle United has stepped up to the plate with remarkable skill.

But Darlow did have a lucky break against Preston. After sprinting to the edge of his penalty area and slapping the ball clear from just outside the box in the 72nd minute, he was given a booking.

But when asked about the possibility of a straight red, Farke was unimpressed, pointing out that earlier in the afternoon, the visitors had also avoided going a man down in similar situations.

Farke explains, “If that was a red card, then the one with Joel Piroe breaking through in the first half.” A swift yellow card was issued by the referee.

For Karl, a yellow card was all that was required.
