Cowboys ‘Bust’ Talk On Dak Blocker Fuels Draft Rumor

The Dallas Cowboys have a lot of alternatives at selection No. 12 in the NFL Draft, so it’s crucial to keep that in mind. Despite having a huge list of needs, the team can only select one player on the first day of the draft. Nothing is impossible. On draft night, the Cowboys have a history of surprising fans, regardless of the amount of conjecture around prominent players at high-profile positions like running back Ashton Jeanty or receiver Tetairoa McMillan.

Dallas acquired two offensive linemen as a result of a trade back in the first round last year. It didn’t create a lot of excitement, but it’s undeniable that the move was made to close a gap. Against the Texas A&M Aggies, offensive tackle Will Campbell (66) of the LSU Tigers is seen in action during the second half. Regardless of how little it thrills supporters, this move might still be considered because of the Cowboys’ ongoing lack of depth on the inside since it could be used again.

According to a recent mock draft, the Cowboys will select LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell with the 12th choice instead of trading back.

“He’s a smooth left tackle who may not have excellent length but has the movement skills and technique to be a rock-solid pass protector for Dak Prescott’s blind side.”

The forecast was written about by the 33rd Team. Although Campbell is a good choice, the Cowboys would be giving up on Guyton after only one season if he were selected. Campbell had top-10 selection potential early in the 2024 college football season. At Oklahoma, Guyton mostly played right tackle, but he has switched to the left side since joining the Cowboys. There have been challenges associated with that transition.

Among all NFL tackles, the 6-7 rookie had the second-highest number of penalties (18) in 2024. Additionally, PFF ranked him in the bottom half of the league for run and pass blocking. The Cowboys’ front staff may quickly replace Campbell through the Draft if they share many of the complaints regarding Guyton’s performance. Since Campbell is already at ease protecting the quarterback’s blindside, many scouts anticipate that he will be a dependable starter in the early going of his NFL career.

With Dak Prescott returning under center, that blindside protection is essential. Securing a left tackle might allay concerns about Prescott’s injury history and Dallas’ quarterback predicament, which have already caused “panic” in a number of circles. However, this approach raises the possibility that Guyton is already a “bust.” As a result, we believe that the judgment is a little too soon. In his last five seasons, Prescott has only participated in two complete seasons, both of which saw Dallas win 11 or more games. Thus, maintaining Dak’s health is the key.

To safeguard Dallas’ $240 million man, a surprise first-round selection may land a player like Campbell at The Star if the Cowboys don’t think Guyton is the answer on the left side of the line.
