Italy release statement on Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto’s injury

On Friday night, everything went wrong just as it appeared like Wilfried Gnonto would be regaining his spot in the Leeds United side.

Gnonto’s performance against QPR was praised after the Italian has struggled for playing time, and it may send a strong message to Daniel Farke.

The Leeds winger hasn’t played much because Dan James and Manor Solomon are doing well for the Whites.

After his impressive performance against QPR during the international break, it appeared like the Leeds manager could give him more chances.

But Gnonto has already sustained an injury while playing for the Italy under-21s on the road, and the possible issue has been made public.

Italy statement on Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto after injury

Given how precarious Gnonto’s future at Leeds already appears to be, this injury for Italy won’t help him win back Farke’s trust.

Seeing a player who is eager to show himself at the beginning of the international break is the last thing any manager wants to see.

Italy’s media issued a statement during the match, stating that Gonzo, 21, will be hoping his most recent setback isn’t too concerning given his little playing time at Leeds: “The striker is forced to leave due to an ankle problem.”

This will leave Farke wondering what might happen after Gnonto’s tragic injury.

There is never a good moment for an international break, particularly when 16 Leeds players are representing their countries.

More so given that the Championship run-in is rapidly approaching, as Farke will need to keep an eye out for other players who may be playing on Saturday.

The Leeds manager will be hoping that no more bad news comes his way because Gnonto is a winger and James and Solomon will also be playing for Wales and Israel, respectively.

The Whites’ chances of winning promotion might undoubtedly suffer if a key Leeds player sustains another injury.
