Graham Smyth shares what Patrick Bamford did after Leeds United defeat v Southampton
Following Sunday’s 1-0 loss of Leeds United to Southampton in the Championship play-off final, Graham Smyth has disclosed what Patrick Bamford did (26 May).
Due to a knee injury, the 30-year-old striker was not included in the matchday squad as the Whites lost at Wembley and were not able to advance to the Premier League.
Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter failed to find the back of the net, and with fifteen minutes left, Crysencio Summerville was hooked, making it evident that Daniel Farke’s team had missed him.
Smyth stated in a Monday, May 27, article published in the Yorkshire Evening Post: “Patrick Bamford walking into the Southampton half of the pitch to shake the hands of all the Saints’ staff.”
Patrick Bamford’s touch of class as Leeds United taste defeat v Southampton
During his six seasons at Elland Road, Bamford will have experienced heartbreak numerous times with Leeds, the most severe of which was when the team was relegated from the Premier League the previous year.
Before suffering an injury against Middlesbrough in April, the forward appeared to have finally cemented himself back into the starting lineup under Farke, who had led them to a strong stretch of play this season.
Leeds saw a sharp decline in performance at the same time, dropping out of the top two Championship spots and losing out on automatic promotion on the last day of the season.
It will also be difficult to accept defeat in all three encounters against the Saints, who finished ahead of them in the Championship table but lost out on promotion in the end.
With the club needing to raise money this summer, Bamford’s future is currently unknown, and other teams may be trying to sign him due to his skill and experience on the ball.
It was a good gesture to see Bamford hand over to the Southampton staff at full time, knowing how hard they have worked this season, even though all the players were devastated by the 1-0 loss at Wembley.
A star linked to a transfer was spotted at Wembley in brand-new fan footage, which is other Leeds news.
