The council and Nottingham Forest are at odds, but if they agree to a £10 million freehold agreement, the stadium project can proceed.

The opinion of financial analyst Kieran Maguire, who spoke with Football Insider exclusively, is that Forest would lose important connections to the city’s transit system and culture if they decide to relocate.

A discussion about the future of City Ground and possible stadium extension is presently underway between Forest and the Nottingham City Council.

Some employees would like to relocate to Toton, and Forest officials are engaged in a “civil war” over the stadium choice, as Football Insider has disclosed.

The offer to Forest is for the freehold of the City Ground for £250 million or a £250 million land lease for 250 years (£1 million annually).

Maguire clarified that the club would be able to proceed with their present stadium development plans thanks to the freehold offer, even if he believes that supporters would prefer to remain at the City Ground.

“Tensions between Nottingham Forest and their local council are very high.”

Regarding the club’s stadium ambitions, there has been gunboat diplomacy on both ends for a while.

“However, if Forest decides to accept the offer, the advantages of having the freehold or a 250-year lease imply that the club will have more time to plan for the stadium’s growth.

“It is my understanding that supporters would favour this over a stadium located outside of town, which would result in a loss of transportation and cultural connections.”
