Nottingham Forest brutally axe three players days after securing Premier League survival

This summer, three players will depart from the team.

Three players were let go by Nottingham Forest a few days after they managed to survive in the Premier League.

With a 2-1 victory over Burnley on the final day of the season, Forest officially sealed their Premier League survival, consigning Luton Town to an instant return to the Championship.

Due to their violations of the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Nottingham was docked four points in March. Earlier this month, their appeal against the punishment was turned down.

Following the conclusion of the season, Forest has officially announced the release of three members of the first team.

After their contracts expire this summer, Wayne Hennessey, Felipe, and Cheikhou Kouyate will leave the team.

The group of three joined the team in 2022–23, their first season back in the top division, where they finished four points clear of the relegation zone.

In January 2023, Felipe, a Brazilian defender, came from Atletico Madrid. He put in a few strong performances to assist his new team avoid relegation.

The 35-year-old announced in March that he will be retiring from professional football this summer, capping an incredible playing career that saw him play for both club and country in excess of 420 times.

Following his arrival from Crystal Palace in 2022, former West Ham player Kouyate made 36 appearances over his two Premier League seasons with the team.

Hennessey only made nine club appearances, none of which came this season, but he was a key figure in the goalkeeping department and behind the scenes.

Gio Reyna, Divock Origi, Nuno Tavares, Gonzalo Montiel, and Rodrigo Ribeiro will all depart the City Ground at the conclusion of their loan periods, Forest has also confirmed.

Reyna was a surprising addition to Nuno Espirito Santo’s team in January after losing favour at Borussia Dortmund. Despite this, the USMNT forward failed to score and only managed one assist in ten appearances.

A contingent of Chelsea fans have turned on two of the players despite their victory over Nottingham Forest.

Even though Chelsea defeated Nottingham Forest, some of the team’s supporters have turned on two of the players.

The team led by Mauricio Pochettino increased their hopes of qualifying for Europe the next season with a thrilling 3-2 victory against Forest.

Willy Boly cancelled out Mykhailo Mudryk’s first goal, then Callum Hudson-Odoi, a recent Chelsea academy product, curled in a superb finish to give Forest a 2-1 lead.

However, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson’s two late goals allowed the Blues to rally and win. They now sit three points ahead of Manchester United and level on points with Newcastle, who are in sixth position.

As for Forest, they are virtually certain as they sit three points clear of Luton in the final relegation spot and have a significantly better goal differential going into the final

Despite the victory, some Chelsea supporters were criticising the club’s £3.5 million summer transfer of Hudson-Odoi to Forest on social media, saying the 23-year-old is a better player than high-profile additions Mudryk and Noni Madueke.

One user on X, the official Twitter, commented on a post regarding Hudson-Odoi, saying, “Clear of Mudryk and Madueke ffs.”

“Chelsea signed Madueke and Mudryk and sold him for three million,” another person stated. inadequate hiring practices.”

A third person said, “He is far better than all of Chelsea’s attackers.”

“And he just made Chelsea regret they sold him for nothing!” exclaimed a fourth individual.

Former Chelsea youth standout Hudson-Odoi signed a contract worth an estimated £150,000 per week in 2019 after the Blues turned down offers from Bayern Munich worth up to £35 million.

However, injuries significantly hindered his growth once he broke into the first team, and Chelsea were forced to sell him because his contract was expiring.

He has seen a bit of a career comeback since joining Forest; he has started 11 of their last 13 games and scored eight goals and provided two assists so far this season.

On the last day of the season, Chelsea will host Bournemouth, while Nottingham Forest will play the relegated Burnley.
