‘Written off’ – Rival player makes frank Leeds United admission with apology
Following the crushing defeat at Elland Road on Thursday night, Norwich City captain Kenny McLean apologised and made an honest admission about Leeds United.
After a dominant second half to the Championship season, Norwich finished sixth and qualified for the play-offs. However, a Whites blitz in the semi-final second leg dashed the Canaries’ hopes of promotion.
In the second leg on Thursday at LS11, Norwich fell behind 2-0 after just 20 minutes, eventually losing 4-0, four days after the first leg ended in a goalless draw at Carrow Road on Sunday.
“We came this far and that’s our last performance of the season, that’s the most disappointing thing,” said McLean. “The work we’ve put in to get to this stage, it’s disappointing, think back to December, January-time, where we were written off. “There’s so much hard work to get us into this situation, that’s the way we go out. That’s the most disappointing thing, we didn’t give ourselves a chance. It’s so hard really, I get the frustrations from the fans, it’s so hard to take for everybody. “As a player, you want to be involved in these games, these situations, you need to live off the occasion, but we didn’t. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb early on, we didn’t get off the bottom and do anything in the game.”
Sending a message to Norwich’s fans, McLean declared: “They got us to this stage. They deserve more, they deserve to have a better day than what they’ve had today. Even if we give more and lose a game, it wasn’t enough and we want to apologise for that, they’ve been outstanding”

Wembley Stadium will host the Championship play-off final, and 35,796 tickets have been allotted to Leeds United.
At Elland Road, the Whites’ ticketed supporter base is almost as large as the stadium itself, and they will dominate the East End. West Bromwich Albion and Southampton’s second leg of the semi-final tonight will be the focus of attention for Leeds, who have not yet been informed of their opponents. May 26 is the scheduled date of the final, which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
The adult ticket price range for the final at Wembley is £37 to £105, with a five category pricing structure in effect. Concessions, which range from £18.50 to £52.50, are available to supporters 65 years of age and under as well as students.
Availability will determine the order in which the pricing categories are sold: first come, first served. There won’t be any in-person sales at the Elland Road ticket office or over the phone; all ticket sales will take place only online through the official Leeds United website.
General admission season ticket holders are the first phase of ticket sales, and they will begin online on Saturday, May 18, at 10.30 a.m. and continue until Tuesday at noon. Owners of away season tickets and general admission season tickets are assured a seat; however, they must apply online within the phase one priority period. Members of seasonal hospitality are also covered in phase one.
Phase two, the “home and away tracker” for members, begins on Monday, May 20, at 10.30 a.m. and continues until Tuesday, May 21, at noon. All 2023–24 My Leeds Members who purchased tickets for nine or more games overall this season—both away league and cup matches and home league and cup matches—will receive a ticket if they apply during the second priority window.
The club will issue another notification regarding sales if there are any tickets left over after phase two.
Leeds has also announced that official coach transport will be offered in collaboration with Fourway Coaches and can be reserved online through the official ticketing website of the team. Coach tickets for adults cost £60, while those for concessions cost £53. On a “fill and go” basis, coaches will begin leaving Lowfields Road at 8 a.m.
