Tottenham work on four new signings as three stars to leave – source

Tottenham are working on signing at least four players to add depth to their defence amid concerns over Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Due to the defenders’ history of injuries and Romero’s propensity for receiving bans, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke clarified on the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that they will not be able to start the entire season together.

The team urgently needs backup for both centre backs, in addition to Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie, the former Spurs goalkeeper explained.

There will be a need for reinforcements because Ben Davies, who is frequently used to fill in across the back four, is reportedly up for sale this summer, according to Football Insider.

When Eric Dier’s loan with Bayern Munich expires, he will finalise his permanent transfer, and Spurs will also consider offers for Emerson Royal in the next window.

Tottenham to target four defenders in transfer window

This allegation was made just a few days after Football Insider disclosed that Ange Postecoglou would clear out the Spurs roster, cutting a number of defenders.

O’Rourke maintained that in order to increase the team’s depth, Postecoglou must completely revitalise the group.

When asked where Spurs needed to make an investment, he told Football Insider, “Defensively, it’s the back four.”

Van de Ven and Romero, the cover that they need. Dragusin has come in and we’ve not really seen much of him.

With Van de Ven’s injury record, and Romero’s injury record and suspensions, we know they’re not going to play a full season.

The full-back areas as well.

I think they struggled with Ben Davies at left-back when they played against Arsenal. Bukayo Saka caused him a lot of problems.

When Udogie and Porro are not fit, the strength in depth that they’ve got in these areas, the manager needs to rejuvenate the squad.

He played against Manchester City with four full-backs across the back four. That’s obviously an area of glaring need.”
