Sky Sports pundit and commentator, Don Goodman, is backing Leeds United for promotion this season and admits he will be “gutted” for one of Leicester City or Ipswich Town who misses out by finishing third in the Championship.

This season’s promotion race has been fascinating for the neutral, and as we approach the final five weeks of the run-in, three teams are still vying for two slots in the automatic promotion spots, with Ipswich now leading their competitors by a wide margin.

In this season’s second tier, the bar being set at the top is at an all-time high, especially from Leeds and Ipswich, who have been extremely fierce recently in terms of their form and pursuit of Leicester.

Daniel Farke’s team has already won 13 of 15 league games in 2024, including nine straight at one point. This comes after a difficult stretch during the holiday season, when they only managed one victory in five games. Their near-perfect record since the beginning of the year is only marred by draws against Watford and Huddersfield Town.

After a challenging end to 2023 and beginning of 2024, Ipswich has won nine games and lost one in the league since a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion in the first week of February. They are not as wealthy as the recently demoted parachute payment teams, but they have been unrelenting in their quest for premier league play.

After securing six points, three of which came from a match against Southampton, Ipswich emerged from Easter weekend in the greatest shape. Meanwhile, Leeds hosted Hull, a team vying for a play-off spot, while Leicester began play at midday against Norwich City, another team vying for promotion.

After Leeds and Leicester failed to duplicate Ipswich’s winning result on Friday, thereby destroying Southampton’s chances and giving the impression that it was a three-horse race, all three of the best teams in the second tier secured triumphs on Monday.

Don Goodman’s Leeds United promotion claim

A lot more twists and turns are sure to occur before the season ends, and the three clubs fighting for a guaranteed spot in the Premier League may easily trade places several times for second place.

It’s highly likely that the issue of who will win the major prize will be posed numerous times during the season, and the outcome may depend on the last game for each participating club.

Don Goodman is certain that Leeds will take one of the two spaces inside the automatic promotion slots, though. He stated through Crypto Casino LTD, “Yeah, I still believe they will get promoted.

“They’ve got a manager who has been there and done it, while their front line is ridiculous. Farke has Crysencio Summerville, Dan James, Georginio Ruitter, Willy Gnonto, Patrick Bamford, Mateo Joseph and Jaidon Anthony at his disposal.

“When you align that with a water-tight and rock-solid defensive unit which they have with Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu, you have to be favourites to get the job done.

“I’m going to be gutted for the team that finishes third and I’m already a tiny bit gutted for Southampton as they’ve had an excellent season.

“But I cannot see Leeds United finishing outside the top two.”

“Just illogical” – Damning verdict issued on potential Kalvin Phillips, Leeds United reunion

The Leeds United supporter for FLW thinks there are too many unanswered questions in the deal for Kalvin Phillips to return to the team from Man City.

Leeds had put in a strong effort in 2024 thus far; at one point, they were behind Leicester by 17 points, but Farke’s team found their form at the ideal moment to overcome the deficit.

The way that Ipswich has been playing lately must also worry Leicester, especially when it seemed like the Foxes had the title locked up only a short while ago.

With record-breaking point totals for second and third nearly guaranteed, any lost ground from this point on may be disastrous for any of the participating teams and define the season.
