Real Madrid and Bayern Munich join race to sign Leeds United star as details of scouting mission emerge
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are both keeping tabs on Leeds United wonderkid Archie Gray, with the two Euro giants scouting the youngster according to reports.
Leeds is presently engaged in an exciting title fight as they attempt to avoid the likes of Leicester City and Ipswich Town in order to regain their Premier League position.
This time around, a lot of Leeds players have done well in the Championship, but none more so than Grey, who has had an incredible breakout season.
The 18-year-old has started all but five of the league’s games thus far, and after a string of standout performances, some of the top teams in Europe are beginning to show interest in him.
The adolescent sensation has previously been connected to teams like Tottenham, Manchester United, and Liverpool, but it appears that teams outside are also taking an interest in him.
HITC reports that representatives from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich attended Leeds’ most recent game against Hull City in order to keep an eye on Grey.
Grey was employed in his more natural midfield role against Hull, despite having spent the majority of the season playing at right back.
The 18-year-old is said to have “long-term admirers” from both teams, although it is unclear if any of them will formally approach the player.
Leeds have a gem on their hands
Although there have been many outstanding players from the Leeds academy throughout the years, Grey has the potential to be the best of them all.
The teenage player has a contract with the club through 2028, having inked a new agreement in January. Leeds can now dictate his own future with some reasonable bargaining leverage.
It could be challenging to hold off teams like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but Leeds themselves appeared committed to keeping Grey at Elland Road.
“He is, without any doubt, one of the biggest talents in his age group in this country,” Daniel Farke told reporters while discussing Gray.
“If you’re one of the biggest talents then you have the potential to reach everything. For Archie, yes, the sky is the limit. But it’s not about saying one day he will be there and one day he will be there.
“You have to live in the here and now because there are still many aspects where he can learn and improve. He has to develop a bit more and we’re working with him.
“If he continues with this work ethic and professionalism, he has all the chance to reach everything that he wants.
“He has represented his country at youth level and he obviously has the potential to do it at a proper level with the mature Three Lions.”
