‘I read today…’ – Ex-PL midfielder sees Leeds signing £140,000-a-wk player

Leeds United tipped to sign Kalvin Phillips as pundit shares what he knows about potential deal

For Leeds United, Kalvin Phillips “would be a good signing,” according to former Manchester City player Nick Summerbee.

A possible return to Elland Road has been mentioned in relation to Phillips in light of his difficulties while on loan at West Ham United.

Phillips’ £140,000 weekly wage from Manchester City is fully funded by the Hammers, according to The Sun (January 25).

Leeds United tipped to sign Kalvin Phillips as pundit shares what he knows about potential deal

Before West Ham and Tottenham play each other at the London Stadium on Tuesday, April 2, Sumerbee gave his assessment on beIN Sports, stating, “I read today that maybe Leeds United if they go up, that would be a good signing for them.”

“They know what he is all about, he hasn’t got to prove anything so maybe that would be a good move for him.

“I hope he turns it around from here until the end of the season, he is more than capable of doing it but it just hasn’t happened, sometimes it goes that way as a footballer.”

Leeds United and Daniel Farke could offer Kalvin Phillips a lifeline

Even if Phillips’ time since leaving the Whites hasn’t exactly been the finest, Daniel Farke can still use him as a talented player in the Premier League.

Phillips’ return may be a major help and a true statement signing if Farke is to lead the West Yorkshire club back to the top flight of England.

The midfield player, who is obviously not at ease with West Ham, needs a chance to prove himself at a team that he loves, and Leeds may be that club.

If Phillips were to rejoin his old team at Elland Road, he might find redemption because it is a familiar setting where he played some of his finest football.

In order for Leeds to advance, they will require players of Premier League calibre, and despite his difficulties in recent years, Phillips is unquestionably still a player of Premier League calibre.

Leeds handed worrying Georginio Rutter update about his future

The 21-year-old Georginio Rutter had a difficult start to his Leeds career but has since become one of Daniel Farke’s team’s best players this season.

In the 2023–2024 Premier League season, Leeds faced relegation, as the French player—who joined from Hoffenheim for a rumoured club record fee of £35.5 million—struggled to score goals.

Although Leeds is desperate to return to the top division, their hopes of doing so were dashed on Good Friday as they drew 2-2 with Watford.

Over the course of 41 games this season across all competitions, Rutter has rediscovered his best form in the Championship, recording seven goals and eighteen assists.

Leeds United have been handed a worrying update regarding Georginio Rutter’s future.

LEEDS, ENGLAND – MAY 13: Georginio Rutter, Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville of Leeds United inspect the pitch prior to the Premier League match between Leeds United and Newcastle United at Elland Road on May 13, 2023 in Leeds, England.

Leeds United will lose several key players if they fail to get promoted

If Leeds United is unable to get promotion back to the Premier League, a number of players may depart the team in the summer, according to Football Insider’s transfer correspondent Peter O’Rourke.

“If Leeds does miss out on promotion, there will be interest in Rutter and other top players at the club,” O’Rourke said on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast. If that’s the case, people like Gnonto and Summerville will also be sought for elsewhere.

As the end of the season approaches, Leeds is involved in a four-way competition with Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton for automatic promotion.

With 87 points, Ipswich Town leads the league at the moment, closely followed by Leeds with 86 points in second place. With a game remaining, Leicester City trails Farke’s team by just one point in third place. With two games remaining, Southampton can still finish in the top two with 74 points.

As usual, the Championship promotion race will be fiercely competitive, and Farke must help the team reach its goal lest the Whites find themselves up for fire in the summer.
