Sky Sports staff fume at Leeds United’s Georginio Rutter after what he was doing post-Millwall

Georgia Rutter, a striker for Leeds United, has become as a fan favourite in the Championship this year after turning up game-winning performances while sporting a perpetual smile.

Few supporters understood why the Whites spent so much money on the Frenchman after he arrived for £36 million in January 2023 because Sam Allardyce, Javi Gracia, and Jesse Marsch refused to give him chances.

With 15 assists to his credit, Daniel Farke has developed the forward into one of the greatest in the Championship this year, making him the main creative force in his team.

Rutter earns Player of the Match while playing through hernia trouble

Rutter’s performance in a Leeds shirt has not been at its peak for a while, but there’s a reason for that.

The ailment, which has apparently been bothering him for weeks, was confirmed by the club in a statement yesterday. He is scheduled to have minor hernia surgery this week, which might keep him out of action for about ten days.

Still, he turned in a game-winning performance against Millwall, setting up two goals for Dan James and Willy Gnonto.

He was named the full-time Sky Sports Player of the Match for his performance:

Rutter frustrates Sky Sports staff by delaying post-match interview

After winning the Player of the Match award, Rutter, 21, celebrated as usual at full time, thanking the supporters in all four corners of Elland Road and matching their three cheers with a big, beaming smile. When Sky Sports staff tried to drag him away from his celebrations with the South Stand to come do an interview, he told them to calm down, as seen on social media by @LeedsMatchWorn:

They can wait another 10 seconds after changing our kick-offs every week

The least Sky Sports can do is allow us to celebrate our absurdly timed victory on our own timetable, because they are the ones who made us play on a Sunday at 3 p.m.

Given that he has conducted so many interviews this season, it is encouraging to see that he is prioritising the fans in this instance rather than diving right into another one.

Attempting to prevent our players from celebrating with supporters won’t help, since Leeds’ relationship with Sky during their Championship tenure is well-known to be strained.
