Leeds United: Sky pundit slams ‘dreadful’ Wilfried Gnonto for what he did v Sheffield Wednesday

Leeds United’s winger Wilfried Gnonto was destroyed by Andy Hinchcliffe in a “dreadful” moment in the first half of the team’s game against Sheffield Wednesday. The incident was broadcast live on television.

Daniel Farke’s team won the Championship on Friday, March 8, completing a perfect two-match winning streak, thanks to goals from Patrick Bamford and Gnonto either side of halftime.

Even though Gnonto started the game on the right instead of Dan James, he had a rough start, and Sky Sports analyst Hinchcliffe noticed that he had overhit a pass meant for Archie Grey.

“Just a little heavy?,” he said, speaking on Sky Sports Main Event on March 8, 20:17. That pass was awful. That’s an easy pass to make inside Gassama, right into Archie Gray’s path.

“Just play a considered ball, you can see from his reaction. He should be doing a lot better with that.”

Gnonto has caused division at Elland Road during his tenure. Despite having a fantastic Premier League season in his first year wearing the White shirt, he struggled to get going in the Championship after attempting to leave in the summer.

But over the past few weeks, the Italian winger has greatly improved, especially when playing away from home, where he has been an absolute force in front of goal. However, the beginning of his performance at Hillsborough on Friday night was remarkably careless.

Although Hinchcliffe’s assessment of his pass into Grey as “dreadful” may have been a little exaggerated, it was a huge overhit and a waste of a great opportunity as the Whites broke well down the left flank.

Gnonto made up for it with several superb defensive stops before scoring a goal of his own to double the Whites’ lead. If the 20-year-old keeps up his good play, Leeds or another team will be his opponent in the Premier League.
