‘Annoyed’: Archie Gray shares what great uncle Eddie said to him after scoring first Leeds goal vs Leicester

After Archie Grey scored his first goal for Leeds United on Friday, he revealed what his great uncle Eddie had told him.

At Elland Road, Leeds defeated Leicester City 3-1 thanks to a thrilling late deflection goal from the 17-year-old. It was an amazing moment for both the player and the team.

Following in the footsteps of his father Andy, grandfather Frank, and, of course, Eddie, Grey is the fourth member of his family to play and now score for Leeds in what has been a memorable season. Not far behind could be Brother Harry.

Eddie will be extremely proud to see his great-nephew continue in his footsteps since he is a true one-club man and one of Leeds’ greatest players ever.

However, Archie made light of Eddie’s reaction in an interview with ITV, saying that he was “annoyed” that he scored because it broke his record for the youngest age at which he scored his first goal for Leeds, before going on to discuss how significant the moment was for everyone.

Archie shares great uncle Eddie’s reaction

“I think he was more annoyed, but happy that I beat his record of how young he was to score a goal [for Leeds] by two days,” the man stated. Indeed, he was ecstatic for me, and when I called with him following the game, he expressed his happiness. It’s simply a happy occasion for the entire family.

Although Gray’s first goal for Leeds was always going to be a memorable occasion for all Leeds supporters, it was made even more memorable by taking place in such a significant match and under those particular conditions.

Although there had been some discussion on it being an own goal, it appears that Grey has been given credit for it thus far, which is appropriate given that it was on goal.

Grey is rumoured to have laughed at manager Daniel Farke’s quip that his first goal will always come from a deflection, but he won’t give a damn.

As he continues to forge the family tradition at Leeds, perhaps Archie can emulate Eddie and make that goal his first of many while wearing a Leeds shirt.
