‘Disaster’ – Pundit View: Player ‘Extremely Frustrated’ since quitting Leeds

Kalvin Phillips ‘disaster’ detailed after Leeds United exit as ex-Premier League star speaks up

Phillips played for Leeds in the Premier League in 2020–21 and 2021–22 before landing a lucrative contract to join Manchester City.

However, the England international found it difficult to get playing time at the Etihad Stadium and was sent to West Ham in the previous month.

Even though Phillips is having trouble at London Stadium, former Chelsea player Burley thinks Phillips will eventually find his best form again.

He told ESPN FC [19 February] that “it’s clearly been a disaster for him and I think what you’re seeing here is a very frustrated player.”

“He’s a really irritated player who feels that he’s not skilled or fit enough. He feels disappointed in his own performances and feels that he hasn’t received enough game time.

When it occurs, sometimes it just sets you off. He can no longer perform the same duties for Leeds and, on occasion, for England.

However, he can fix that. He can fix that by adopting a negative mindset and lowering his head.

Kalvin Phillips has struggled since Elland Road exit

Over the course of two seasons, Phillips started 46 Premier League games for Leeds; however, he has only started four more times in the league since.

The midfield player has made four league starts in the last eighteen months, so it seems sense that he is having such difficulty finding his rhythm.

In his first four games at West Ham, the 28-year-old committed two costly mistakes and was sent off.

His heyday at Leeds, where he was one of the best midfielders in the division and won caps for England, is a long way behind him.

Though it’s obvious that the grass wasn’t greener, Phillips’ move to Man City a few years ago was not resented by anyone.

A reunion with Phillips is not completely out of the question if the Whites make a comeback this season.

Who knows? Perhaps a trip back to Elland Road is exactly what the former fan favourite needs to truly launch his comeback.
