Leeds may now face dilemma over whether to keep 27-year-old who’s started last eight league games – opinion Leeds United News 2h

Junior Firpo is undoubtedly a name that Leeds United supporters must bring up when debating which players have surprised them the most this season.

It is safe to assume that since coming to Elland Road, Junior Firpo has not had an easy time. Given Leeds’ history of left-back woes, it seemed like a coup when he agreed to a four-year contract for a fee of £12.8 million.

Sadly, in his two and a half years in West Yorkshire, we have only seen glimpses of this former Barcelona player.

Leeds may face a difficult decision with Junior Firpo in the summer

Thankfully, this season has brought plenty of those peeks.Firpo has performed admirably over the past few months.Throughout Daniel Farke’s team’s incredible run, he has been a pillar of the group. Along the process, he has also contributed four assists.

With Sam Byram recently struggling with a few injury concerns, it has been a huge boost for Leeds.

However, it also presents a problem for the Whites going into the summer, as Firpo is getting close to the end of his contract.

Time may be right to sell left-back

Next season, hopefully, Leeds will be a Premier League team. That said, some players will need to perform at a level that we may not have seen in the past. And perhaps one of those is Firpo.

Prior to this, Firpo was discovered in the upper echelon. Furthermore, it would be a risk to start Firpo as our first-choice left-back in the upcoming season, assuming we are back at the top of English football.

Of course, now is not the time to talk about a new agreement. Leeds might therefore need to think about cashing in this summer, especially if his stock stays high.

This season, Firpo has encountered occasional difficulties. And that might serve as a reminder of the danger involved in continuing to see him as the top option.

It’s true that Leeds isn’t expected to get many big offers for Firpo this summer. Therefore, it could be wise to retain him for the remaining year on his contract.

But the choice that needs to be made is undoubtedly difficult. And some would believe that Firpo should end on a high note as a result of that.
