Leeds United flying after win at Plymouth

Leeds United, under Daniel Farke, were relegated in May of last year and are now in a titanic struggle to get back into the Premier League right away. After a stunning victory at Plymouth and a shocking loss for the Foxes on Saturday, they are now in second place, two-thirds of the way through the Championship campaign, and getting closer to Leicester.

A game remains to be played on the Elland Road side for Southampton and Ipswich Town, who are only a few points behind. The Yorkshire team is getting close to crunch time, with two of these four teams probably going to make it to the play-offs and at least one guaranteed to play another season in the Championship.

In his brief time at Elland Road, Joe Rodon has immediately won over the fans. The Welshman joined on loan from Tottenham in the summer after struggling at Ligue 1’s Stade Rennais.

Despite being only 26 years old, he has already established a strong combination with Pascal Struijk, which has enabled the Elland Road team to have the best defensive record in the Championship. This has served as the foundation for their immediate return to the top flight.

The future appears gloomy for the former Swansea defender, as Spurs have signed three center-backs since the appointment of new manager Ange Postecoglou last summer. Leeds will be eager to retain him on a permanent basis.

Writer for Tottenham John Wenham was questioned about the makeup of Tottenham’s defence going forward, as well as what would happen to fellow centre defender Japhet Tanganga:”I believe Tottenham would just let Tanganga go if he doesn’t play between now and the end of the season. If he does play, I believe Spurs would exercise their option to give him a one-year contract extension before trying to sell him for about £3 million.”

It is difficult to envisage too much of a market for the Welshman, though, as Leeds may find themselves at the front of the queue and able to score a deal, since Postecoglou has nowhere to go in his plans.
