‘Criminal’ – Adam Pope slams Leeds player for what he did despite 2-0 win over Plymouth

Leeds United: Adam Pope slams Wilfried Gnonto for ‘criminal’ action despite 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle

In the first half of Leeds United’s 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle, Adam Pope blasted Wilfried Gnonto, the forward, for his “criminal” conduct in failing to stay onside for a golden chance.

Late in the first half, Gnonto was given a yellow card by the referees after a build-up to an attack that culminated in opposition defender Ashley Phillips shooting into his own goal.

The Italy international played the ball into the middle, but because he was on the wrong side of his man, the goal was eventually ruled out.

“Willy Gnonto’s being offside there is criminal,” Pope stated on BBC Radio Leeds on February 17 at 1:17 p.m.

“Although he is making his point, he can see clearly over the queue. The large centre back for Plymouth, Phillips, scores with a terrific finish.

This season, Gnonto has had to exercise patience, but he has more than welcomed the chance.

The Italian took his opportunity brilliantly and opened the score for Leeds at Home Park on Saturday, February 17, against Plymouth.

When a ball entered the area, Plymouth’s defenders failed to handle it, and Gnonto capitalised with a cool finish.

His goal was his sixth in the last five games. He had also scored two goals in the midweek triumph against Swansea City.

Even though Daniel James is now fully recovered from his ailment, Gnonto still has the upper hand as the season draws to a close.

Even though Gnonto erred in the previously described instance, it was still a commendable performance.

Gnonto has drawn a lot of interest from the Premier League, but if he keeps up this level of play, Leeds and the player will return to the top league soon.
