“Neck on the line” – Manager who lost to Leeds United makes Cry Summerville, promotion claim live on Sky
This week, Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville added another goal and assist to his record as the Whites triumphed 4-0 at Swansea City.
With the standard at an all-time high at the top of the table, the Championship automatic promotion race appears to be one of the most competitive in recent years.
Leeds had already defeated their South Wales rivals Cardiff City last month with three goals and a clean sheet, so they were in for another lengthy away trip, this time to Swansea City.
Crysencio Summerville continued where he left off in the eighth minute, having scored a brace against lowly Rotherham the previous weekend.
After a cleared corner by Leeds was regained by Georginio Rutter, Summerville was in a familiar position on the left side of the box, opening up to curl into the far corner after fast play by Ilia Gruev.
The Dutchman’s shot went through the mass of bodies and into Carl Rushworth’s near post, giving Leeds a 1-0 lead. Leeds never looked back, adding two more goals in the first half through Joel Piroe and Willy Gnonto.
When Summerville broke forward and set up Gnonto for his second of the game, he received his eighth assist of the year.
Gareth Ainsworth backs Leeds for promotion
The winger scored the lone goal when Leeds defeated his R’s team 1-0 early in the month, allowing former QPR manager Gareth Ainsworth to witness Summerville’s skill firsthand. Ainsworth was fired later that month.
He highlighted Summerville’s abilities as a promotion-winning player when he featured on the Sky Sports panel to discuss the games on Tuesday night:
Given Southampton’s recent success, a few men have their eye on the team. Leeds, in my opinion, are a fantastic team. Indeed, they seem like such a positive side.
“If Summerville maintains his current form, he is the kind of player that teams have had in the past when you can say, ‘That player was the one who got them promoted.'” That’s what Summerville has accomplished.
“I’ll stick my neck out and predict Leeds will win easily.”
