Andy Goldstein hits out at ‘bonkers’ West Ham United owner after David Moyes sack news
Andy Goldstein referred to David Sullivan as ‘bonkers’ after it was revealed that the West Ham owner had postponed giving David Moyes a new contract after the team’s 6-0 loss to Arsenal.
The host of talkSPORT maintained that you cannot fire your manager after just one poor performance, saying that sometimes you just have to accept the setback and go on.The fact that the Hammers have lost all four of their games this season and have given up 12 goals was not brought up, but Goldstein chastised the owner for holding up contract negotiations.
Live on talkSPORT [February 12, 16:13], Goldstein delivered the news update, saying, “David Moyes’ future as their manager is in doubt.” Although Moyes and owner David Sullivan were on the verge of finalising a new two-and-a-half year contract, it is rumoured that Sullivan is less certain that he will keep the Scot past the conclusion of the season.”In their next four games against Premier League clubs in the bottom seven, David Moyes will have ample opportunity to turn around those results. The games are Forest on the road, Burnley at home, Brentford at home, and Everton away.
Subsequently, he delivered his assessment: “It is absurd, in my opinion, for an owner to be influenced or determined by the outcome regarding his manager and his future prospects there.” Games like that are available. Sometimes I believe that these things are just something you have to chalk up as a crazy afternoon. For one game, a manager cannot be fired.
David Moyes could be sacked by West Ham
Given how little time he has remaining on his present contract, there has been much debate this season over whether Moyes should be given a longer contract or let go at the end.
With the outcome against Arsenal, which itself followed a 3-0 thrashing at Old Trafford against Manchester United to exacerbate the fact that Moyes’ team hasn’t won since December, the strain is likely more than it has ever been.
There are still valid points on both sides of the debate, with the manager still standing to benefit from the Hammers’ impressive league standing, Europa League qualification, and bank account credit from the Conference League triumph.
But if the team continues to produce results like that, the board may make up its mind. In the meantime, fans, who are already becoming impatient with the way the football is played, are demanding for a more visionary manager to take over.
