This Thursday, Leeds United announced the permanent transfer of Luis Sinisterra, paying £20 million to part with the Colombian.

Due to provisions put in place by the previous administration that allowed players to sign contracts with other teams for the 23–24 season with almost no control over the decision, Leeds saw a number of players depart the club on loan during the summer.

Luis Sinisterra, who was considering legal action to force a move to the Premier League with Bournemouth, bookended that summer window with his departure.

From the moment it became apparent that Sinisterra was prepared to take legal action to compel a transfer to the Cherries, it seemed inevitable that he would permanently leave Leeds.

Therefore, it was hardly shocking when Bournemouth announced on Friday that he has signed a permanent deal, with the South Coast team advancing their option to purchase at a cost of £20 million:

While Jesse Marsch was still with the team in the summer of 2022, Leeds was able to recover the cost they paid to get the quick winger from Feyenoord.

Farke comments on significant windfall Leeds received for Sinisterra

When this topic was brought up during Friday’s pre-game press conference, Daniel Farke expressed his relief that a deal had been reached to remove Sinisterra from the team permanently.

During his conversation with the YEP regarding the sale and its implications for Leeds’ summertime reinvestment of the £20 million, he stated:

“I think overall it’s a good decision, beneficial for our future. Many compliments for our main people involved in negotiations. We wanted to have the perfect result for us and think we did. I never made a secret I really rate Luis from his football point of view, good player, good person, wish him all the best.

“He also made it clear in the summer he wanted this move. You have to accept there are good players playing for other clubs. We wish him really all the best, no hard feelings at all, fingers crossed for his future.

“For us as a club it’s the right decision, it frees up some money to do some business we want to do in the summer. I’m always a bit careful when a player wanted to go away, to bring him back. It’s like when you put the food in the microwave, it never tastes like when it’s freshly cooked.”

In the unlikely event that Leeds is not promoted this season, the club will be under pressure to keep its best players, but Sinisterra’s departure gives us more flexibility.

We’ll be in a far better position to invest in strengthening the Premier League team if we are promoted.

The fact that the team couldn’t be updated was a major problem for Leeds when we were last promoted, but now that we’re in a position where we can, we definitely can.
