Opinion: Moyes must drop cumbersome £20 million duo if he really wants to play better

The games against Sheffield United, Brighton, Bristol City, and Bournemouth are the primary instances of the absolutely terrible football that the Hammers have played.

Better football, more patterns of play, and at least our team getting out to a fast start are what the fans have been clamouring for.

Despite the fact that both Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal are good players, there are two players that make this nearly difficult.

Both of the Czech Republic internationals cause us a great deal of transitional slowdown since they are quite uneasy with the ball at their feet.

Although it is obvious that Moyes adores both players, they must be released immediately if he is serious about leading us to new heights.

In January 2020, Soucek joined on loan from Slavia Prague; five months later, the move became permanent for an estimated £15 million (Daily Mail).

For about £5 million, Coufal, meanwhile, came to the London Stadium just four months after his compatriot (Guardian).

Although both players have proven to be excellent additions for West Ham, I firmly believe that we have outgrown the £20 million pair at this point.

Soucek and Coufal shouldn’t be on the team if we want to continuously aim for the top six spots in the Premier League standings.

Ben Johnson and Kalvin Phillips ought to replace them in the side, after which Moyes can search for longer-term fixes in the summer.

David Moyes, the manager of West Ham, must sign a young right-back with a lot of energy, strength, speed, and technical skill. It would be ideal if we could sign Leeds star Cody Drameh, who has recently been linked to us.

The Scottish player then has to sign a central midfielder who is technically proficient and very at ease in possession of the ball. Alternately, if he signs a top-tier left winger in the summer, he might shift Lucas Paqueta back into central midfield.

Soucek and Coufal are both dropped, which is the key development here. Although they always give their all for the team, I find it difficult to say that, but the harsh reality is that sentimentality is not tolerated at the highest levels of the game.

In addition, Moyes must act decisively about the Czech duo if he wants to take the team to the next level.
