But the Hammers boss’s implementation of football is far from ideal. The problem is, Moyes has no justification left with the players he currently has at his disposal for not positioning his squad more offensively and starting players on the front foot from the opening kickoff.
It is also completely unacceptable that he had a defeatist mindset before away games against the so-called big six, and it appears that the players are also exhibiting the same traits.
To cap it all, Moyes failed to sign the center-forward that we sorely need and instead let Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals depart the team on January deadline day without adding a replacement.
However, it appears like Moyes has just recently understood that we have an issue in the latter third—quite puzzling, in my opinion!
David Moyes says West Ham have a huge problem right now
Following his team’s 3-0 loss at Old Trafford yesterday afternoon, the Scot spoke to the media.
And Moyes, cited by WHUFC.com, bemoaned his team’s carelessness in front of goal:
“Right from the start, I was wondering if we were going to get anything on target. Let’s be fair, it’s not just today, it’s been in recent games as well. We’ve not scored as many goals recently. We only got one against Bristol City, two against Sheffield United and one against AFC Bournemouth, but today I felt we made better opportunities. I thought we played better today, and we got some chances, but we just weren’t clinical when we got the moments.”
So, am I understanding this correctly, Moyes only became aware of our struggles in front of goal last month? I apologise, but that is simply not acceptable behaviour from a purported top management.
We’re not exactly a free-flowing team, are we? Since November, the Hammers have only managed three goals once, which came in our 3-0 victory over Wolves in December.
We have only done that four times this season in the Premier League. Every single individual who watches West Ham knows that we need a top-tier striker who fits our system.
But it appears that David Moyes, the West Ham manager, has only recently become aware of that.
