NBA source on Miami Heat’s deadline plans: ‘No one knows what the hell Miami is going to do’
Regarding the Miami Heat’s specific plans for the trade deadline on February 8th, there is still uncertainty, according to an NBA source.
“[Kelly] Olynyk, in particular, is highly sought after in the market,” Action Network’s Matt Moore wrote. “He’s a backup center in a market in which everyone wants size help for the playoffs who can also shoot, pass and defend. Miami has shown interest in Olynyk in the past, though with their recent seven-game slide, one source said, ‘No one knows what the hell Miami is going to do in the next week, as much as we know what any team will do.’”
The Heat have won their previous two games as they have recovered from their recent seven-game losing run. First, on January 31, the Heat defeated the Sacramento Kings to end their losing run.
Miami defeated the Kings by nine points, with Josh Richardson playing brilliantly off the bench. He shot 9 out of 15 from the field and 6 out of 10 from 3-point range during his 27 minutes of play, scoring 24 points, pulling down five rebounds, dishing out three assists, and grabbing one block.
Jimmy Butler, who finished with 31 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field and 9-of-12 shooting from the free throw line, finished with the most points on the team, ahead of only Richardson.
The Miami Heat defeated the Washington Wizards, an inferior foe, to earn their most recent victory. With a 9-39 record as of right now, the Wizards are the second-worst club in the Eastern Conference. They have only won twice in their last 10 games.
When Miami played the Wizards, Bam Adebayo perhaps had the finest performance of any player. He shot 8 of 14 from the field and finished with 20 points, 14 rebounds, and one block. In addition, Butler scored 24 points, and Terry Rozier and Tyler Herro each added 15 points to the team’s eight-point victory.
The Heat’s acquisition of Rozier undoubtedly attracted attention from the NBA community, but it’s unclear if the franchise will attempt to create another stir.
It seems obvious that the Heat should think about trading for Olynyk before the deadline. With the ability to shoot the ball accurately from behind the 3-point line and be a productive facilitator, he possesses a unique blend of skills for a player of his calibre.
