Exclusive: 22-year-old Tottenham were ready to sell now set for big role

With just 185 minutes of Premier League play this season and 10 appearances across all competitions, Gil has struggled to establish himself in Postecoglou’s plans thus far.

Due to an injury, the Spaniard missed the opening part of the season and found it difficult to break into the starting lineup.

Gil was pushed down the Spurs hierarchy by the signing of James Maddison, and he now has to contend with players like Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski for a wide position.

Gil has only had two starts so far this season, but more playing time is anticipated for him because Tottenham has a hectic schedule coming up.

Gil paid £21 million to join Spurs in 2021, although he has had difficulty adjusting to life in London. In 2022 and 2023, he was loaned back to Valencia and Sevilla, two Spanish teams.

‘A joy to watch’…Joe Cole says even Tottenham fans didn’t expect £40m player to be as good as he is

James Maddison had yet another fantastic day for Tottenham today, and according to Joe Cole, his influence has exceeded everyone’s expectations.

Ange Postecoglou has been pleased with Maddison’s return to health after he contributed another assist in Spurs’ 2-2 draw.

Although there was enthusiasm when Maddison was signed by Tottenham for a mere £40 million, few could have imagined he would end up being this excellent.

Joe Cole did make that case on TNT Sports today, in fact. Regarding Maddison, the former Chelsea midfielder acknowledged that it’s likely Tottenham supporters were unaware of the England player’s potential significance.

It’s fun to watch him. I don’t think even Tottenham supporters realized how crucial he would be to their style of play when he signed. He simply takes up these positions behind Gueye, and as we saw with the second goal, he moves his feet and body beautifully. He simply moves the ball with his foot, and it’s really nice; he’s not fast.

Maddison is so impressive

There’s a lot of competition among the England squad’s midfield players and several excellent players in the Premier League right now.

James Maddison, though, appears to have elevated himself this term. His ascent has been so great that you would even now recommend he be included in the England XI.

As Cole points out, not many people would have predicted Maddison would be this excellent, thus Tottenham is clearly benefiting much from him carrying the load.

Madison is demonstrating his talent every week as he picked up another assist tonight along with another magical moment and more standout performances throughout the match.

Had Tottenham managed to finish in the top four, Maddison will have played a major role in that success.
