Leeds United transfer news as late Liam Cooper exit now on cards at Elland Road

Alan Nixon reports that Blackburn Rovers, having missed out on Liverpool’s Nat Phillips, have made a “Surprise” move for Leeds United defender Liam Cooper during the January transfer window.

After Phillips decided to go on loan to Cardiff rather than Blackburn, Cooper has become available as a potential alternative for the Championship underdogs, the Sun journalist revealed via his Patreon on January 30.

It’s been rumoured that Cooper would be available on loan in a frenetic end to the month at Elland Road if Leeds manage to sign another center-back before the transfer window closes on February

The departure of Luke Ayling, who left on loan to join Middlesbrough and whose contract expires at the end of the season, and Cooper’s departure this month would have resulted in the departure of two club legends in as many weeks for Leeds supporters.

As Cooper is in the same situation—wanted on loan with his contract about to expire—a permanent move may eventually be planned if no new agreement is proposed before he departs to play for Blackburn for the remainder of the campaign.

This is restricted to Leeds’ ability to buy a defender in January, and Everton’s Ben Godfrey is the top player on their list of targets, so it appears certain.

Daniel Farke has talked extensively about the captain’s impact in the locker room, but he also stated as much about Ayling prior to his transfer authorization. Since there are now no contract talks in progress, Cooper is probably the next player to depart the team.

In unrelated Leeds United news, the manager is advocating for an additional signing.

49ers must cough up for last-gasp Leeds January transfer amid new Liverpool update

Today’s Leeds United transfer update shows that redevelopment at Elland Road is still progressing.

According to Graham Smyth, Leeds United should have another quiet day at Elland Road in terms of new arrivals on Tuesday, January

A journalist for the Yorkshire Evening Post has claimed that although work is proceeding, no new hires are planned anytime soon, and another departure is anticipated.

Leo Hjelde is expected to complete his permanent transfer to Sunderland after Leeds approved his proposal on Monday as the transfer window came to an end.

He wrote on X, “Expecting Hjelde to happen today.”

“Work is being done, however there is currently no incoming business at this time. That looks like it will be a quiet day once again.

This silence should bring in one or two new players, since else, Leeds and Daniel Farke have had an absolutely terrible month.

It is known that 49ers Enterprises operates in the background, but one may hope that they are lining things up for potential new hires prior to the deadline of February

Several notable names have left Elland Road this month, including Lewis Bate, Djed Spence, Luke Ayling, and Hjelde, with no indications of new arrivals following them.
