The president of Genoa has now shared his thoughts on the transfer after Tottenham Hotspur acquired Radu Dragusin earlier this month.

The acquisition of a new centre defender was Tottenham’s one and only pressing necessity going into the window.

This season, at least when they have both been available, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have collaborated incredibly well.

Spurs’ defensive depth has been exposed as Romero and Van de Ven have been out by injury and suspension.

In Radu Dragusin, Spurs made a significant acquisition that will help them contend with Romero and Van de Ven for the position of centre defender.

The Romanian centre back Dragusin garnered a lot of attention earlier in January after making an impression for Genoa in the first half of the season.

Although Tottenham seemed to be the front-runners to sign him, Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich moved to take Spurs’ place.

Despite facing stiff competition from Europe’s best, Dragusin decided to sign with Tottenham, completing a significant transfer victory for the Spurs.

Dragusin’s departure will be felt by Genoa as he was able to make his debut against Manchester United earlier in January.

Although Genoa president Alberto Zangrillo has been cited as saying that the deal was “necessary,” the Italian side is pleased with the profit.

Zangrillo said that by turning down Tottenham’s offer, Genoa would have done a “disservice” to both themselves and Dragusin.

This is because Zangrillo feels that accepting the money was the best course of action for Genoa to grow into a bigger club. He also thinks that Dragusin, Spurs, and Genoa can all finally be satisfied with the relocation.

Dragusin may remain a mainstay of the Tottenham defence for many years to come as he is still only 21 years old.

Dragusin has a lot of talent and promise, so Spurs are happy with their January acquisition even if it won’t be easy to get into the team ahead of Romero and Van de Ven.
