‘Sounds horrible’: 21-year-old Leeds player could return to his former club, he’s on big wages – journalist

Joe Gelhardt is struggling to receive any playing time under Daniel Farke, and he might find up back at Wigan Athletic this month. He was an unutilized substitute again last night as Leeds United defeated Norwich City.

Graeme Bailey, a transfer analyst, believes that Gelhardt, 21, will leave the club before the end of the transfer window. Just five minutes have been spent on the pitch by the striker since September.

Although Gelhardt has had a lot of frustrating injuries, it is obvious that Leeds will only use him as a backup if there are injuries. Gelhardt is behind Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford, and Georginio Rutter.

Gelhardt was predicted to have a strong season and profit from the club’s relegation. However, with Rutter and Bamford remaining and the team paying a lot of money to sign Piroe, that hasn’t happened.

Journalist Bailey was contacted by LeedsUnited.News this week, and he said that a return to Wigan or a move to League One team Peterborough had been discussed. Bailey claims to be well paid.

The intriguing one hasn’t taken off. I’m told he’s on a huge, huge salary for the championship. His salary bracket is belied by his squad status. Leeds has a problem because they will have to pay a large portion of that salary.

“Someone mentioned Peterborough to me. It seems cruel to joke, but it is a question of time before he heads back to Wigan—maybe one for the summer. Is he able to visit there this month? Not ruling it out, though.

Graeme Bailey: Joe Gelhardt could return to Wigan from Leeds

This month, Gelhardt’s name has been connected to a wide range of clubs. Plymouth had already signed Adam Forshaw and raided Leeds in search of Darko Gyabi. They are connected to a striker trade.

While he has been linked to Celtic and Rangers, Blackburn, Hull, and Preston are all interested. However, it is unclear if Leeds can approve another loan to a non-English team. He’s intrigued.

It is unclear if he will actually leave Leeds this month or if he will stick around to defend his starting position and possibly wait for an injury in the closing minutes. Within the following few days, we’ll learn.
