‘Final details’: Romano says £21m ‘superstar’ reportedly wanted by Tottenham now joining CL club instead

Fabrizio Romano says £21m Spurs target now joining Champions League club instead

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Belgian prodigy Arthur Vermeeren in recent weeks.

Sadly, it appears that Tottenham was unable to get the midfield player from Royal Antwerp.

Spurs were one of six major Premier League teams interested in Vermeeren, according to a report from 90Min back in October.

In addition to Tottenham, reports indicate that Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Juventus have also been tracking the player.

Spurs are fortunate that Vermeeren isn’t heading to any other Premier League team or their rivals in north London.

Fabricio Romano claims that Atletico Madrid is trying to negotiate a contract extension for the 18-year-old.

“After initial €15m (£13m) package offered as revealed last week… bid in excess of €25m (£21m) sent today. Final details then Vermeeren will join Atliti now, January.”

Tottenham set to miss out on Arthur Vermeeren

For Spurs, this is undoubtedly mixed news. At least it doesn’t appear like Arthur Vermeeren is headed to a Premier League competitor, even though they have all but missed out on him.

Based on the number of elite clubs who have apparently expressed interest in signing him, Vermeeren is currently one of the most sought-after young players in the world of football.

Graeme Bailey recently stated on the Talking Transfers podcast, “This guy is special.”

“Antwerp has a little superstar on their hands in Arthur Vermeeren. He really is, from what I’m hearing speaking to scouts, they think he’s special.” “Our understanding is that Man City, Arsenal, and Tottenham have all enquired about him. So have Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Juventus, and Barcelona as well who looked at him in the summer.” The captain of Antwerp, Tottenham legend Toby Alderweireld, has also spoken highly of the rumoured Spurs target, saying a year ago, as reported by The Sun: “He arrived in the team by force of circumstance, but since then he has learned very quickly. “He reads the game very well, his potential is enormous. Have I seen this before? Rarely, I think.”
