Leeds is trying to sign a long-shot specialist who finished the Championship with four goals in a row.

It seems that Leeds United wants to add another imaginative attacking player before the transfer season closes.

The Whites have some of the greatest attacking options in the league, but one type of player that is conspicuously absent from the team is a left-footed winger who likes to play off the right side.

David Brooks of Bournemouth has been mentioned as a possible target, but there is a new, potentially more interesting name to add to the list from earlier today.

Wilfried Gnonto, who the Whites are rumoured to be anticipating to leave to West Ham, is reportedly being replaced by Burnley forward Manuel Benson, whom Leeds is now attempting to sign.

Before the transfer window closes, Leeds has designated Benson as a priority. Negotiations are already in progress for a player who completely destroyed Burnley in the previous season, helping Leeds win the championship.

Leeds target Benson a Championship long-shot specialist

Benson became one of the top players in the division after joining from Royal Antwerp in the summer of 2022, scoring 12 goals in 33 games.

At the end of the season, four of those goals occurred in back-to-back games, one of which was the winning goal against fierce rivals Blackburn Rovers to secure the championship.

However, the striking thing about this series of goals was how similar they were to one another. After receiving the ball on his right, he would cut inside to his left and curl a shot into the upper corner from the edge of the space.

After Burnley went on a major spending binge in the summer, Benson hasn’t had the opportunity to duplicate that performance this year. Only four games hath he played, and only one of those were from the beginning. A total of 73 minutes.

Benson would be the ideal addition for Leeds at this point in the season, and maybe they can make it happen without having to relocate.
