‘I’m hearing things’: Journalist shares what he’s hearing about star behind the scenes now

Journalist shares what he’s hearing about Djed Spence behind the scenes now

Djed Spence of Tottenham is fast rising to prominence as one of the game’s greatest mysteries.

On his best day, the Spurs right-back can appear to be a world beater.

Known as Gabriel Martinelli’s most formidable foe, he appeared to be a Premier League star waiting to happen while he was a player at Nottingham Forest.

But Spence’s career has taken a drastic turn throughout the last 18 months. He has not fared well at Spurs, was sent back early from a Leeds loan, and hardly made an impression at Rennes.

He is currently on his third loan term at Genoa after joining Tottenham, and Martin Lipton implied on The Spurs Show that the defender’s time at Spurs is now over.

In fact, Lipton claims to have heard rumors from inside the team that Spence won’t be coming back to Spurs following this loan, but he has also heard stories from the outside suggesting that Spence needs to mature a little.

Spence needs to grow up

Lipton discussed his knowledge of Spence.

Spence, from what I hear, left for Genoa and never came back. It appears that there are problems. Lipton remarked, “I’m hearing things that suggest he has a lot of maturity left to find, to put it mildly.”

Penny has to drop

Though it sounds like Spence has a small ego, the player now needs to realize this.

His career is not heading in the right direction, and after playing for four different clubs in the space of eighteen months, he must realize that something needs to change.

Who can say? It sounds like he won’t be playing for Tottenham anytime soon, but perhaps a stint in Italy will be just what he needs to focus and get back on track.

We can only hope that Spence can clear his head and resume his positive trajectory.

Official approach made by Leeds United to £5m PL man Daniel Farke has been asked about – Report

Leeds has struggled with left-backs for many years, even before Marcelo Bielsa joined the team, and during that time, the team has had very few reliable choices.

This was an issue that Daniel Farke took over with his squad this summer, and although Sam Byram has made a big contribution, the team still needs more because of his injury issues.

Ryan Giles enquiry made by Leeds – Report

Leeds has apparently made an inquiry to recruit left-back Ryan Giles of Luton Town on a loan, according to Football Insider.

Only after a stellar time at Middlesbrough, when he recorded 11 assists under Michael Carrick, did the left-back join the Hatters during the summer transfer window from Wolves?

With just five Premier League starts and 501 league minutes under his belt, he has been Alfie Doughty’s lesser player at Kenilworth Road this season.

It is unclear if the Hatters will allow Giles to go on loan this month after he paid £5 million to join them in the summer.

It’s not the first time that Giles has been connected to Leeds; during Farke’s pre-Cardiff press conference, he answered a query regarding the Premier League left-back.

This followed almost no rumors that the defender would be transferring to West Yorkshire earlier in the transfer window. Farke attempted to downplay the rumors, saying in his response:

“No, I don’t speak about any players because it doesn’t help, so we just want to speak about players when business is done and that’s it.”

Leeds need a left-back who can overlap and give him support when Crysencio Summerville cuts in from the left, like Junior Firpo did against Birmingham and Cardiff.

Giles is that guy; his left-channel energy and delivery are ideal for our possession style of play.

He isn’t playing as much as he would have liked at Luton, so maybe leaving on loan would give him the boost he needs to start performing better.
