‘Astronomical Bid’ – Pundit reacts to January transfer race for Leeds United ‘Best Player’

Huge Crysencio Summerville January bid verdict is out for Leeds United as transfer chasers Newcastle, Liverpool, and Aston Villa

We are excited to have Paul Robinson, a former England custodian, join us as an exclusive columnist. Paul will provide his thoughts on the main topics at Leeds United each week.

Paul Robinson claims that in order for Leeds United to entertain selling Crysencio Summerville in January, a “astronomical” and “over-priced” offer would need to be made.

Thanks to his performance this season, the Elland Road hero has attracted a lot of interest from the Premier League. Liverpool and Newcastle are rumoured to be interested in signing him, and on Christmas Day, Fabrizio Romano stated that Aston Villa was also considering a move.

However, Robinson believes that it would be counterproductive to let any of the Whites’ top players to depart during the winter transfer window, and he wants the team to consider only a ridiculously high offer this month.

With 12 league goals and seven more assists this season, the 22-year-old is arguably Daniel Farke’s most important player in the team. Robinson told MOT Leeds News that “Leeds will be looking to keep their best players. Look where they are, they’re fourth in the league for a reason,” so it’s not surprising that interest would be shown, but the Whites would be weaker if he were to miss out on this production.

“48 points from 26 games, they’re having a really good season with the squad that they’ve got. And with the squad depth that they’ve got you’re not going to sell your best players.

“For a player like Summerville I’d like to think it would take a really big bid, an astronomical bid, and over-priced bid if you like, to get any of Leeds’ best players out the door in January.

“He’s the top scorer, he’s got 12 goals this season. He didn’t play against Peterborough because the manager changed it up and showed the squad depth that he’s got.

“The squad depth and the quality that they’ve got is good enough to go up. Why would you sell your best players in January?

“Unless there’s an astronomical bid that comes in and the manager’s able to use that money elsewhere then there’s no reason to sell your top scorer and best player in January.”

Leeds reach ‘Substantial agreement’ with £40m+ Elland Rd ace – Phil Hay

According to Phil Hay, Archie Grey has agreed to a new long-term contract that will keep him at Leeds United until 2028.

Hay referred to the development as a “substantial agreement” for the West Yorkshire club in a piece published on January 16 in The Athletic.

The midfield teenager’s contract was originally scheduled to end in 2025, but after having a breakthrough season with the Whites—making 26 starts across all competitions, the most of any Leeds player before turning 18—he has now further pledged his future to his boyhood team.

Massive

The importance of this announcement to Leeds United and its supporters cannot be overstated. This shows that the Whites are serious about landing a top talent because they have secured his services for many years to come. It also implies that they will be able to demand a high price when Premier League teams eventually show interest in the player in the summer.

Grads from elite programmes rarely have the influence that Grey has had on a starting lineup, and certainly on one who has not yet turned eighteen.

When Grey was called on the bench against Arsenal in December 2021, his first-team Premier League selection at the age of 15, many Leeds supporters would have realised they had a true talent on their hands, and Grey has proven just how gifted he is this season.

Leeds will be happy that he has committed his future to the team. He is also making good progress on the international front, having just made his England Under-20 debut. He is undoubtedly a player with the ability to reach the pinnacle of the game.
