After Leeds United’s 3-0 victory over Cardiff City on Saturday, January 13, Perry Groves has explained why Leeds United manager Daniel Farke was left “absolutely apoplectic.”

The Whites missed a number of chances to extend their lead before Daniel James duly doubled it at Cardiff City Stadium, and Georginio Rutter scored the third. Patrick Bamford opened the scoring for Leeds in the Championship match, but the Whites did not stop there.

Commentator Groves on talkSPORT stated [January 13, 3:27 pm] after Bamford’s miss: “Bamford needs to score when he’s one on one with [Jack] Alnwick.”

“Alnwick comes out and makes himself nice and big. That’s the second brilliant chance Leeds have had from one-v-ones.

“Daniel Farke is prowling around like a caged lion. He is absolutely apoplectic. He knows his side cannot miss these chances.”

Understandable

Bamford’s game-winning goal in 2024 maintained his winning streak as he scored for the third consecutive game.

The 30-year-old had a great opportunity to score the next time it came his way, but he was unable to beat Cardiff custodian Alnwick when through on goal.

That was more akin to Bamford in 2023, when he was always hard to break when given the opportunity, but happily, those times are now behind him.

You wouldn’t have wanted to be near Farke throughout the half if James hadn’t given Leeds some room to breathe before kickoff.

But United deserves all the credit for not letting the miss deter them from their mission to astound the hosts.

Given that Leeds had lost games they had previously dominated this season, Farke’s rage was understandable, but there was little danger of that happening in this instance.

As of right now, Daniel Farke has informed Phil Hay that there is “nothing to add” on any possible additions Leeds United may make in the January transfer window.

Much-needed signings

If Leeds are to continue their pursuit for Premier League promotion this season, they will require additions before the transfer window ends. Ampadu can play centre back, but having just one natural center-back on the field against Cardiff is a little concerning.

Due to Liam Cooper’s injury and Pascal Struijk’s second injury of the season, Rodon and Amapdu filled in as the starting centre back duo. Furthermore, even though it worked against Cardiff, a struggling team, it is not a long-term fix.

Ampadu and Glen Kamara are needed in midfield since Ilia Gruev is currently a little out of his league. When the Welshman plays defence, his influence on the game is minimal.

Furthermore, given that Firpo’s career at Elland Road has been beset by injuries, there is cause for concern regarding his possible injury, as noted by Graham Smyth. Having having missed multiple games this season due to a knee ailment, it’s possible that the former Barcelona player will miss more time due to injury.

Even though they predicted a quiet January at Elland Road, most people think Leeds will add a few players before the end of the month, especially considering how difficult the second half of the season will be.
