Medical Today: Winner named in Leeds & Southampton race to sign PL giants star – Sources

Sources: Leeds and Southampton hit by transfer blow, Fabio Carvalho agrees terms

According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Hull City has defeated Leeds United, Southampton, Wolves, and Sheffield United in the race to acquire Fabio Carvalho.

It is thought that the star player from Liverpool and the Tigers have come to a complete deal. He will have a medical on Tuesday, January 9, before finishing his loan for the duration of the season.

The team led by Liam Rosenior is expected to sign the 21-year-old after they won over Liverpool’s management with Tyler Morton’s growth while he was on loan from the Reds and thrived at the MKM Stadium.

Carvalho is not need to be purchased by Hull City, as Liverpool is still optimistic that he will eventually establish himself as a mainstay in the first team at Anfield.

The less glitzy Championship team defeated loan bids from Leeds United, Southampton, Wolves, and Sheffield United for the attacking midfield player.

Carvalho was sent on loan to RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga last summer, but his time there was cut short after he made just nine league matches and did not make an impression.

In 12 appearances across all categories in Germany, he managed a total of 360 minutes and only two starts.

Liverpool is optimistic that a promotion to the second division will help him turn around his season and provide him with the game time he sorely needs to grow.

He signed a five-year contract to join Anfield from Fulham in the summer of 2022 for an estimated £5 million. Since then, he has only made 21 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s team, the most of which have come as substitutes.

Leeds is planning many loan acquisitions before the end of January, as reported by Football Insider on January 9, indicating that they are still hopeful of adding players in January after losing out on Carvalho.

Recalled Aston Villa star Lamare Bogarde is being pursued by Southampton, Watford, and Cardiff City for a loan deal that will last the rest of the season, according to sources who spoke with Football Insider on January 5.
