‘Absolutely outstanding’… Paul Merson shocked that £15 million player is at Tottenham Hotspur now

Italy international and Tottenham Hotspur left-back Destiny Udogie has received a verdict from Paul Merson.

According to the former Arsenal player and Sky Sports analyst, Udogie is currently the greatest left-back in the Premier League after leaving an enormous impression on him.

Now, what has Paul Merson stated regarding Destiny Udogie, the left-back for Tottenham Hotspur? Let’s investigate.

Destiny Udogie, the left-back for Tottenham Hotspur, blows Paul Merson awayAccording to Paul Merson, Destiny Udogie is now the best left-back in the Premier League.

The former Arsenal player finds it hard to believe Tottenham signed the left-back instead of other teams. The North London team gave Udinese an upfront payment of £15 million (Sky Sports) for the young player.

Udogie is the Premier League’s most underappreciated player, according to a Sky Sports analyst.

“I think Destiny Udogie is the best left-back in the Premier League at the moment, where has this lad come from?” Merson said to SportsKeeda regarding Udogie. Although he could have been purchased by anyone, Spurs signed him in 2022 and leased him back to Udinese, which appears to have had a positive impact on him.

“Nevertheless, I find it hard to believe that with the technology and scouting system available in the game currently, no one else had a look at this guy! I watched him earlier in the season and he got booked after five minutes when he was playing against Bukayo Saka. After that, the Arsenal wideman didn’t have a kick, which was an early indication that he would be a player. I thought it might have been a fluke, but Udogie has gone from strength to strength as the season has progressed – he’s an absolutely outstanding talent.

“There are a lot of full-backs who are good going forward but can’t really defend, but Udogie is an all-round package, making him one of the most exciting players in the world in his position.

“He’s come back from Udinese and really flourished and is getting all the accolades now, so people might say he’s not really underrated. I just feel like after what he’s done this season, he deserves a mention, so he tops my list.”

My View: Destiny Udogie could become world class

Left-back Destiny Udogie of Tottenham Hotspur has the makings of a world-class player, in my opinion. The 21-year-old is, in my opinion, a jewel.

Gabriel Agbonlahor, a talkSPORT analyst and former Aston Villa striker, recently declared that Udogie is the finest left-back in the Premier League.Jamie Carragher has also praised the 21-year-old in his remarks.

And Paul Merson has been praising him since then. It is evident that the left-back is beginning to get attention from commentators.

Even though Udogie is only 21 years old, he has a tonne of experience already. This is due to the fact that the Italy international has been playing first-team football regularly for three seasons running.

With Spurs, the left-back has made 17 appearances in the Premier League this season, with one goal and two assists.

The Italian defender scored three goals and supplied four assists in 33 Serie A games during the previous season. In 35 league games during the 2021–22 season, he scored five goals and provided four assists.
