Tottenham ‘open talks’ to beat Man Utd to Timo Werner transfer

  • After struggling for a while, Werner might depart RB Leipzig. Man United has reportedly identified a former Chelsea forward as a possible target. However, Tottenham is now engaged in talks with the Germany international. Werner could be heading back to the Premier Leaguetwitter

Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with RB Leipzig over a deal to sign forward Timo Werner on loan, according to reports.

Following Werner’s 27-year-old decline in the hierarchy, 90min revealed in November that Leipzig was prepared to cut ways with him this winter. The majority of his usage this season has been as a late substitute, with just two starts in the Bundesliga.

After getting in touch with potential Premier League suitors in late 2018, Werner’s availability was questioned by a number of teams, including Manchester United. However, 90min has learned that the Red Devils are concentrating more on outgoings in January and won’t pursue a new striker until enough money has been raised.

Spurs are reportedly in talks with Leipzig about a shocking loan arrangement that would see Werner return to the Premier League just 18 months after leaving Chelsea, according to Sky Germany, even though United has not yet made a move for a forward.

It is believed that the two teams are negotiating a wage percentage and loan fee with the intention of reaching a deal in the next few days.

Timo Werner

Werner was a popular figure among Chelsea fans during his two-year stay at Stamford Bridge even though he failed to live up to his £47.5m price tag.

The hard-working German ended his spell with Chelsea with just 23 goals in 89 games, returning to Leipzig for a fee of around £25m.

It was with Leipzig that Werner first made his name as a prolific goalscorer. He netted 78 times across four Bundesliga seasons between 2016 and 2020 and was expected to join Liverpool before Chelsea swooped in to land his signature.

Having struggled to justify the expense, Werner returned to Leipzig on a permanent deal last season and managed nine goals in 27 games, but he has been dropped from the team this year following the arrivals of Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko, and the German now appears set for a second crack at life in England.

Unexpectedly, Timo Werner, a former attacker for Chelsea, is expected to make a stunning comeback to the Premier League. He will be joining Tottenham Hotspur on a six-month loan from RB Leipzig, which will send shockwaves through the football community.

Surprise Switch from Leipzig to London

Werner, who was once predicted to join Manchester United on loan, is about to bolster Tottenham’s offensive line. The negotiations between Tottenham and Leipzig are apparently refining the details of the agreement, as this possible transaction is heating up quickly.
