Leeds United man makes sudden exit as on-loan defender returns early to Tottenham Hotspur
Djed Spence, a defender on loan from Leeds United, has returned to his home team, Tottenham Hotspur, prematurely ending his season at Elland Road.
Spence joined Daniel Farke’s team at the end of August on a season-long loan from the Premier League team, but upon his return to North London, he will not be involved in Leeds’ promotion campaign going forward.
Shortly after arriving, the 23-year-old played his first game for Leeds against Sheffield Wednesday. However, he later suffered a knee injury that sidelined him for two months. With just seven appearances, his time at Elland Road is coming to an end.
“Leeds United can confirm Djed Spence has returned to Tottenham Hotspur, bringing his loan spell with the club to an end,” the official statement from Leeds said on Thursday night.
“After arriving during the summer transfer window, Spencer made seven appearances for the Whites.
“We would like to thank Djed for his efforts whilst at Elland Road and we wish him well for his future career.”
It is believed that Leeds has used the recall option included in Spence’s loan contract. At his pre-game press conference on Friday afternoon, manager Daniel Farke is anticipated to go into further detail about the club’s decision.
