‘Really concrete target’: Tottenham would really like to sign £60m striker

‘Really concrete target’… Tottenham would really like to sign £60m striker – journalist

In the January transfer window, Tottenham needs to solve a lot of problems.

The fact that Spurs still haven’t truly replaced Harry Kane is something that hasn’t been discussed much despite the team being linked to a number of defenders and midfielders.
In fact, since Kane left, Spurs haven’t actually bought a new number nine, choosing instead to rely on their own internal options, Richardson and Heung-Min Son.

On Last Word on Spurs, Ben Jacobs stated that Spurs are actively pursuing Santiago Gimenez, indicating that a new striker will eventually be required.

Gimenez appears to be a fantastic player in the Eredivisie, but how often have we said that about a striker in the Netherlands?

Sure, certain players, like Ruud van Nistelrooy, Luis Suarez, and Robin van Persie, come over and perform admirably, but other players, like Memphis Depay, Antony, Alfonso Alves, and Alireza Jahanbakhsh, have all shown that the Dutch league is a very dangerous league to buy from.

Spurs really can’t afford to spend a tonne of money on a player who is so inexperienced at the highest level, but Gimenez is worth a try at the appropriate price.

When it comes to Premier League clubs chasing attackers in the Netherlands, we would warn any club trying to sign Gimenez right now since good performances in the Eredivisie may be quite misleading.

Whether Spurs make a move for Gimenez is still up in the air.

A recruitment source with links to Belgian football has told Tottenham News that Vermeeren is also wanted by a host of other Premier League clubs, and scouts are talking about him being the next Christian Eriksen due to the way he plays.

Eriksen played 305 times for Tottenham, scoring 69 goals and providing 90 assists for the club, and was a part of Mauricio Pochettino’s side which reached the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in Spurs’ history in 2019.
Vermeeren is a technically skilled player with excellent passing skills, according to a recruitment source with ties to Spurs, but he lacks tenacity and intensity.

He continued, however, by calling the midfield player a “serious talent” who would only become better with time.

Considering the state of his midfield right now, Postecoglou would probably be happy to sign, especially in January.

While James Maddison is still out due to an ankle injury, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr may not be available until mid-February due to their AFCON competition.

The FA Cup third-round matchup between Spurs and Burnley is scheduled for Friday, January 5 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. While Rodrigo Bentancur’s comeback during the team’s 3-1 victory against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve was undoubtedly encouraging, Spurs’ midfield is still severely lacking.
