Leeds veto emerges as January approach planned to steal Elland Road star – report

Leeds United is expected to put up a fierce fight against Newcastle United regarding a possible transfer bid for Crysencio Summerville, as reported by TEAMtalk.

As of [3 January], the internet news source stated that the Whites, who have scored the most goals this season, will be prepared to turn down any offers that Eddie Howe and Newcastle may have for Summerville.

Leeds veto emerges as January approach planned to steal Elland Road star - report

Leeds is rumoured to be trying to find money to buy players like Summerville, who is having trouble finding consistency in the Premier League. It is thought that Leeds has already declared their intentions regarding the flying Dutchman to be “not for sale.”

Eddie Howe, who was instrumental in Lewis Hall and Harvey Barnes’ relocation to St James’ Park, is represented by the same agency as the Netherlands Under 21 forward. Leeds has already made it clear that they are not in favour of Summerville, so the same will not be said about him.

A damaging potential transfer

The loss for Leeds and Farke would be catastrophic should Summerville leave Elland Road in the January transfer window.

With just Sammie Szmodics, Morgan Whittaker, and Adam Armstrong ahead of him in the Championship goalscoring chart, the 22-year-old winger has recorded 12 goals and six assists in 24 games this season.

Not only does he have the second-most assists on the team, but he leads Joel Piroe in scoring by three goals. It is almost certain that Leeds’s chances of being promoted back to the Premier League would be eliminated if Summerville left in January.

Given Summerville’s extraordinary qualities, it is hardly surprising that Premier League teams are showing such a great deal of interest in him. It is also unsurprising that Leeds has been so resolute in refusing any offers for its top player.

He is nearly unreplaceable as one of Farke’s first names on the teamsheet. He also shed a tear as he made his Premier League debut in 2021/22, having discovered firsthand what it means to be a Leeds player after joining the Whites in April 2021.

After suffering a severe decline in performance from the beginning of the season—which included elimination from the Champions League group stage and a slide to ninth place in the standings—Newcastle is in serious need of reinforcements.

But Leeds seems to be taking their stance on Summerville’s departure in January very seriously, so it looks like the Magpies will have to search elsewhere.
