Tottenham Hotspur suffer fresh injury blow as £75m duo ruled out v Newcastle United – key player doubtful

Newcastle United vs. Tottenham Hotspur: Eddie Howe and Ange Postecoglou are each dealing with different injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s game.

A new injury issue has been raised for Tottenham Hotspur ahead of their encounter against Newcastle United on Sunday (4:30pm kickoff).

Spurs will be seeking to snap a five-game losing streak after suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham United in the Premier League. But after taking a knock against The Hammers on Thursday night, there are questions over the fitness of top scorer Son Heung-Min.

Following the game, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou made the following statement:

“Yeah, we’ll see how Sonny is. He was a bit sore after the game – we’ll wait and see what the outcome is in terms of Sunday. “There’s nothing – apart from Sonny – that looks too serious [from the defeat against West Ham].”

Spurs will be missing their £40 million summer acquisition James Maddison as he continues to recuperate from an ankle injury, with Son ruled out of the game against The Magpies. Tottenham’s extensive injury list also includes Manor Solomon, Eric Dier, Alfie Whiteman, Ryan Sessegnon, Ivan Perisic, Micky van de Ven, and Rodrigo Bentancur.

With at least 13 players considered uncertain or unable to play going into the game, Newcastle is also dealing with a number of injury problems. Eddie Howe, the head coach, was unable to speculate as to whether United captain Jamaal Lascelles, who suffered a dead leg in Thursday’s 3-0 loss at Everton, would play on Sunday.

Sean Longstaff, Sven Botman, and Joe Willock are all expected to return from injury this weekend, so Howe is optimistic about that, but the Newcastle manager stated there are “no guarantees” that his team will be strengthened.
