Guardiola apologises to former Leeds united star: ‘He doesn’t deserve what has happened’ – Guardiola apologises to for lack of game time

PEP Guardiola apologises to Kalvin Phillips for the Manchester City Snub, stating, “He does not deserve what has happened to him.”

Pep Guardiola addressed rumours that midfielder Kalvin Phillips would be leaving the Etihad in January prior to Manchester City’s Premier League game against Luton Town. Since joining from Leeds United in the summer of 2022, Phillips has had difficulty getting into the starting lineup, and Guardiola acknowledged that the 28-year-old “does not deserve” to be in this circumstance.

“Everyone in the club has a good life,” stated Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola remarked, “Everyone in the club benefits from living the way we do.”

Kalvin Phillips “does not deserve” to be getting little playing time at Manchester City this season, according to Guardiola, who also admitted that it has been hard to “see him” fit into his plans.
Midfielder Phillips, who joined the treble winners from Leeds in the summer of 2022, has found it difficult to earn regular playing time under Guardiola and has not started a game yet this season.

After losing 1-0 away to Aston Villa on Wednesday night, City’s Premier League winless streak now stands at four games. The England international did not enter the game as a replacement.

Guardiola admits 'better team won' after Man City's defeat to Aston Villa

GUARDIOLA SAYS “BETTER TEAM WON” IN THE AFTERMATH OF MAN CITY’S OVER ASTON VILLA

Ahead of City’s encounter with Luton, the Spaniard was questioned about reports suggesting Phillips would be leaving the Etihad in January.
“I do not know what is going to happen,” Guardiola said. “I’m so sorry about what I decided on for him. That’s what I’ve said numerous times.I apologise so much; he doesn’t deserve what has happened to him.All I can say about him is that he embodies the kind of character and personality I am asking for. After that, I was supposed to give him something, but I neglected to do so.

“It’s just because I visualise some things and visualise the team and things – and I struggle to see him.
“I’m not very pleased [with myself] and I am so sorry for him. I will not say that [to him] because it is a business and I have to be a professional.
“But if one guy behaves [poorly], I don’t care. But the way he behaves with the team-mates and everyone, I care. So that’s why hopefully it can turn around.
“And I’ve said many times, if it comes to January and he stays, I’m more than pleased because he trains really good and he’s a lovely guy and character.”

Guardiola also talked about the recent bad performance of his team. The defending champions are now six points behind league leaders Arsenal in fourth place in the standings after only managing to pick up three points from their previous four games.
Guardiola thinks that City is not currently the finest club team in the world, despite the fact that they have been hailed as such since their treble-winning heroics.

“In that moment [against Villa], we are not the best team in the world because we are not getting results,” he added. “We were.

“In Europe, the world will see in two or three weeks if we are able to do it but at the end that is not important, what is important is to play our level we had two weeks ago.
“Against Aston Villa they were better than us and they deserved the victory for the way they played.
“We’re not far away, next two games are so important before we go to Saudi Arabia to play the (Club World Cup) finals.”
He continued: “When you are winning, you are the best team in the world and when you are not winning, it is a crisis.
“It’s always exaggerated from one side to the other. The reality is that we’re not used to not winning, four games without winning but we played against top teams, because Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa are exceptional teams.
“They were tight games, some of them we played really well, other ones we did not, it is what it is.
“It’s not the first time we have been in this position.”
