The ticket exchange website StubHub may be in serious trouble because of allegations that they sold tickets for Tottenham vs. Liverpool that were not functional to a lawyer in New York.
According to a report released by Bloomberg on November 22, Daniel Kaiser, a native of Brooklyn, reportedly had his ticket not scan on September 30, the day of Spurs’ Premier League match against the Reds, and was therefore denied entry into England. He is now suing the large ticket vendor.
He is accusing StubHub, a multibillionaire company, of “fraud and breach of contract for selling and promoting fraudulent tickets,” claiming he was told multiple times that his ticket for the game was 100% guaranteed.
When his tickets did not scan at the gates, Kaiser claims a staff member at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium told him that StubHub was “not authorised to act as a broker for the stadium.” Apparently, a Spurs employee also told him that “previous StubHub customers had identical experiences.”
Visitors are advised not to buy tickets from any StubHub website worldwide by the official Tottenham website. The Spurs recommend against using StubHub. Viagogo is the company that owns it; it purchased the website from eBay in 2020 for an estimated $4 billion.
Kaiser seems to be trying to file a class action lawsuit against StubHub, which suggests he is looking for other customers who bought tickets from them but were not successful.
Despite the allegations, Bloomberg reports that the ticketing website under investigation is still taking orders for this weekend’s Spurs vs. Aston Villa match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Bloomberg reached out to StubHub, a US-based company with its headquarters located in Utah, seeking a response, but as of this writing, they had not received one.
