Tottenham now want to sign ‘magnificent’ Everton player in January after holding transfer meeting

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is one of the defensive targets Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly eyeing during this week’s transfer meeting.

This is in line with The Daily Mail, which states that in light of Micky van de Ven’s injury, Spurs may want to get a new centre defender in January.

The fact that Van de Ven will be out until the new year and that Cristian Romero is suspended leaves Ange Postecoglou woefully short in the middle of defence.

After Wolves’ previous match, the Australian manager was compelled to start Ben Davies and Eric Dier at centre back, forming a patchwork defence.

Spurs are anticipated by many to enter the market in order to add more quality depth to the position, and it appears that they are considering a move for teenage player Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton.

Spurs want Branthwaite

According to The Mail, Tottenham is keeping an eye on Marc Guehi and Branthwaite of Crystal Palace.

It has been reported that Spurs met this week to talk about potential winter transfer targets for the defence position.

It comes after Eric Dier’s contract is scheduled to expire in the summer of 2020 and Van van Ven sustained a hamstring injury against Chelsea earlier this month.

With ten Premier League matches under his belt, Branthwaite has shown to be a valuable asset under Sean Dyche.

Alan Shearer has praised the 21-year-old as a “magnificent” defender.

Following some impressive performances at Goodison Park, he is drawing interest from a number of elite clubs, with Newcastle reportedly showing particular interest.

Even so, Branthwaite leaving Everton in January would come as a great surprise.

With a 10-point deduction last week, the Toffees will have to fight to stay in the Premier League.

New contract negotiations between Everton and the young player have begun, and Spurs will probably need to make a sizable offer to entice him to leave Merseyside.
