‘Unbelievable’ Spurs talent who could now replace VDV gets cheered for making big block from Veliz in training

Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, faces a difficult decision when it comes to his defense this Saturday before their next Premier League match.

Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie of Spurs are both suspended, and Micky van de Ven is scheduled to miss till the New Year due to a hamstring injury.

Tottenham’s veteran center defender Eric Dier is expected to start against Wolves, but it’s unclear who else might start in his place.

Ashley Phillips, a summer acquisition by Spurs, appears to be a potential choice as he has been practicing with the first team this week before the game.

The 18-year-old participated in the photo session that the Tottenham media team posted on YouTube on Thursday, showing the squad at work at Hotspur Way.

The Spurs coaches can be seen cheering and applauding at 5:35 after Phillips makes a fantastic block on Alejo Veliz.

Kulusevski reckons Phillips ‘will be ready’ for Tottenham

Phillips putting forth a lot of effort and looking the part during training is encouraging. He appears to have what it takes to step up, therefore there’s a high chance he may get started.

Phillips has played competitive senior football before. He had previously made 14 appearances in the league for Blackburn Rovers when he joined Tottenham.

Dejan Kulusevski, Phillips’s teammate at Tottenham, appears optimistic about Phillips’ chances of making the first team.

Yes, most likely he is ready, the Sweden international told football.london earlier this week.

“The coach makes that decision, but in my opinion, every athlete in training is amazing.

“Everyone is eager to play, and the training is at such a high level. He will therefore be prepared should he be called.

If he is selected for the Saturday match against Wolves, it will be interesting to watch how he performs.
