Agent says Tottenham made ‘official bid’ for Arsenal star David Raya; explains why it was rejected

Tottenham Hotspur officially put up a proposal for the Spanish goalkeeper this summer, according to David Raya’s agent, Jaume Munell.

However, he went on to say that the proposal was turned down since it was less than Brentford’s asking price for the 28-year-old celebrity. Raya was subsequently signed by the Gunners on a season-long loan, with the possibility to extend it permanently for an additional £27 million the following year.

Munell, in an interview with AFTV (h/t Metro), stated:

“Tottenham was also interested and submitted an official bid, but it was turned down because it was less than the €40 million [£34.9 million] that Brentford was hoping to get for him.”

Here, let’s be sincere. Although it’s not a case of resentment, very few Spurs supporters would choose to trade Raya for Guglielmo Vicario at the moment. The Spaniard certainly has skill with the ball at his feet.

Spurs should have no regrets

However, Vicario excels at the fundamentals of goalkeeping and is a well-rounded goalie. He is still in the peak of his career and possesses the agility and quickness that Hugo Lloris was gradually losing between the sticks.

We signed Vicario for about half the sum his agency is quoting above, which is another important point to note. This summer, we paid just £17.2 million to sign the 27-year-old from Empoli.

Guglielmo Vicario was very impressive for Tottenham
Furthermore, Raya has occasionally had an unsteady appearance. He doesn’t appear to be confidently controlling the post every single game. However, for a goalie who is expected to play more with his feet, that is, to be honest, just part of the game.

The representative added that Raya was being considered by Arsenal, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich. Spurs avoided an unnecessary bidding war by acting appropriately. Vicario’s discovery is a major accomplishment for the scouting division.
