‘NOBODY KNEW’: PUNDIT CONVINCED TOTTENHAM HAVE MADE A SIGNING EVEN BETTER THAN JAMES MADDISON

Prior to colleague James Maddison, Tottenham Hotspur has been informed that Micky van de Ven is the season’s best acquisition.

Pundit William Gallas believes that Tottenham Hotspur’s summer acquisition of defender Micky van de Ven was a complete success.

Spurs had a difficult season the previous year and required a major infusion of quality over the summer.

James Maddison, who cost approximately £40 million to acquire from Leicester City, gave Ange Postecoglou a boost.

Then, in what now appears to be a brilliant move, Tottenham made another significant purchase, paying £34.5 million, rising to £43 million, for Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven.

William Gallas hails Tottenham signing Micky van de Ven

Van de Ven, who teams up well with Cristian Romero in the center of the Tottenham defense, has been exceptional.

Being a left-footed defender by nature, the Dutchman possesses great speed and height, and he can also develop outside of defense.

William Gallas, a former Spurs defender, has recently lauded Van de Ven in an interview with The Mirror (05/11, p63).

Gallas says that although James Maddison is being hailed as the season’s best signing, in his view, Van de Ven is the true winner.

According to the Frenchman, Maddison’s skill was already well-known in England, and he was certain to have an influence for Tottenham.

Gallas feels that Van van Ven is the genuine acquisition of the season because of his adjustment from the Bundesliga to the Premier League and the fact that ‘nobody knew’ him prior to his transfer to Tottenham.

“James Maddison is not the best signing of the season – Van de Ven is,” said Gallas. “We already knew how good Maddison was, and him going to Spurs was the natural progression. People aren’t surprised to see him doing so well, and Tottenham’s players have more quality than Leicester’s.”

“Nobody knew Van de Ven prior to his arrival and he’s playing in his first Premier League season. He had to adapt to a new team and a new league. He doesn’t make mistakes and he plays a very simple, effective game. People are starting to speak about him now and he’s starting to score,” he added.

Van de Ven looks like a star for years to come

Tottenham was aware that in order to get a competent left-footed center back in the future, they would probably need to spend a lot of money.

When it comes to left-footed defenders, the market has exploded and clubs are constantly paying high prices.

Simply observe the current occurrences of Lisandro Martinez and Josko Gvardiol.

With only 23 years old, Van van Ven still possesses a ton of potential, therefore Tottenham needed to find their long-term answer.

It appears that Tottenham has a true potential star on their hands in Van van de Ven, but he still needs to avoid injuries and slumps.
